Hike Estate Fortsberg

Author: Windspree Vacation Homes

fortsberg-cannon An area on the map as well as the name of a popular Windspree rental villa, both Estate Fortsbergs are worth checking out.   The private villa of Estate Fortsberg is surrounded by national park land. The area and ruins of Estate Fortsberg are an 18th-century citadel fortress.  Erected in 1717, Fortsberg was also the site of a successful African slave rebellion in 1773.  In August of 2013 National Park workers uncovered 4 cannons buried on a beach in Cruz Bay, believed to be the original cannons of Estate Fortsberg. Each cannon is 7 feet with long barrels designed for shooting iron balls at impending threats.  The fort was used by the Danish in the mid-18th century as a trading post, where four bastions and a gun deck were added. During the Napoleonic Wars, Estate Fortsberg was occupied by the British in 1801 and again from 1807 to 1815.

Explore the hidden trails up to and around Estate Fortsberg and enjoy spectacular views of Coral Bay and Hurricane Hole. Enter the side road off of Rt. 10 (Centerline Road), about a 1/4 mile past Skinny Legs on the right, where Coral Bay Coral and Donkey Dana reside. Travel along the bay shore until you reach a mighty steep unpaved road to the left, which you'll take all the way to the top. This hike can be a hot one, so best done in early morning or late afternoon.

Why not stay at Estate Fortsberg!
