8tuff_startlineOnly the tough survive this gruelling island run (walk or crawl), from Cruz Bay to Coral Bay on St. John in the US Virgin Islands.  Just 8.375 miles long, only the very best runners finish the course in under an hour. More than a thousand people enter and finish the race each year. Do you have what it takes to tackle the 8-Tuff turf?

8-tuff-miles-lime-inn-team-2016 The 22nd Annual St. John 8 Tuff Miles Road Race was held on Saturday February 25, 2017. For times and winners, visit 8tuffMiles.com. Congratulations to everyone who finished and was awarded the right to brag, as well as a medal that doubles as a bottle opener.

More than a hundred volunteers coordinate to setup the finishing line, organize the racers, and man the water stations. Groups compete for water station awards, so the motivation to win extends beyond those who are actually in the race.

Each year the course begins and ends at sea level and along the way racers reach an elevation of 999 ft. at the Bordeaux Mountain overlook.  With approximately 1400 feet of elevation gain in the first 5.5 miles, few run every step.

Local favorite and previous owner of Skinny Legs, Mo Chabuz, runs each year for Team River Runner, an organizatin that supports wounded veterans.  Mo starts the race from the very back of the pack and supporters sponsor him a certain amount for each person he passes in the race.
