Windspree Vacation Homes St John USVI

Testimonials for Tree House - Upper Carolina

We have been on vacation here for 8 days.  It is our 2nd stay at the Tree House. Over a time span (1997-2011) there has been growth and development but some things don’t change; the wonderful weather, great snorkelling, beers and burgers at Skinny Legs, sailing on Breath and relaxing with good friends. We had a great time!

We’re living in a postcard!  The weather here in the USVI has been perfect!  We explored every beach, Francis Bay the favorite.  We rented a dingy from Calypso, definitely worth it.  A fabulous way to see the island and snorkel along the reefs.  Donkey Diner breakfast is worth leaving the Tree House porch at least once.  We loved Sweet Plantain’s for dinner and sitting at the bar for rum tasting.  Rhumblines restaurant in Cruz Bay tops the list! By far, eating outside on the porch with a tropical breeze and view of Coral Bay is the only place to be.

Some of the best sunrises on the island! A pair of pearly eyed thrashers are friendly and will eat out of your hand!

Good times jamming at Skinny Legs and Shipwreck, giant iguanas and land crabs, custom drinks and Island Blues, sharks, rays and turtles in the water, crazy curvy roads.  Just another typical stay on St. John and the Tree House.

We have had such a good time--we were "newbies" to renting, but intend to return when we can.  Snorkeling was so much fun--Salt Pond and Waterlemon were the best.  Vie's was so wonderful--atmosphere, food, beach... so relaxing!  We learned to ask the locals and got great advice.  We went back to Cruz Bay once and wanted to get back to Coral Bay as soon as possible.  We considered it "our side".  Thanks again.

Thank you for the recharge of soul batteries!  See you again soon!

If you are reading this it means I am no longer at Treehouse and, well, that's just tragic.  This trip was short and off-season, but being by 6th I can offer the following tips:

Dining:  Limited and places were closed but locally nothing beats Skinny Legs for fun food and ambiance.  if you need for far than burgers check out Aqua Bistro.  Good food and not too pricey.

Breath:  Do! Don't take my word for it--go talk to them.  They've been doing it longer and better than anyone.

Snorkeling:  While everything was nice, nothing beat the life our on Salt Pond.  Bring water and bug repellent and do take the trail to pebble beach.  it truly beautiful still so unspoiled.

And of course enjoy Tree House.  The view is breathtaking always.  At night, look over the balcony at the far end by the hammock.

Many thanks to Kay and Karen at Windspree--hope to be back soon!

For newcomers to St. John: Trunk Bay now has a fee for entrance until 4:30pm. But there are so many beautiful beaches on St John that are free.
Snorkeling is great at Lameshur, Waterlemon and Kiddle Bay.
Enjoy!

We have had a delightful stay at Tree House. There’s so much to enjoy: the quiet, the birds, the view from the deck…Every morning was sparkling, afternoons were lazy as we watched the boats in Coral Bay. Evenings brought fat little clouds touched with sunset pink as we watched all the lights come on across the valley. When we could tear ourselves away, we were close to everything we wanted to do, including burgers at Skinny Legs. Thank you for allowing us this wonderful vacation!

What a wonderful view! The breeze on the deck was heavenly! Tree House is a great vacation. We had a lovely time eating on the deck and watching sunrises. We snorkeled every day and saw lots of fish, turtles, rays, etc. We were surprised that the Tree House stairs were outside-maybe suggest that in the website description.
All in all we’d gladly stay here again and hope the Tree House is available for our next visit. We had a wonderful time.

This house speaks for itself. The whole island is to be enjoyed but driving to and from Cruz Bay via North Shore Road beats Centerline Rd! White Wings Cpt. Clark and his boat are a great treat for landlocked landlubbers like us! We will be back if Tree House isn’t sold and remade into some stucco pseudo-palace monstrosity!!!

Such a fantastic view! A very comfortable, functional, convenient house. We love it and hope to return! Try Lameshur Bay-saw rays and wonderful fish close to shore. Love Salt Pond and Hawksnest. Restuarants: Skinny Legs, Island Blues, Rhumb Lines, Shipwreck Landing and Miss Lucy’s for Sunday Brunch.
It is so hard to go home. St. John is a perfect vacation island!

We only spent 2 days here at Tree House but LOVED it and definitely want to come back. Great home, wonderful views and awesome hammock. We felt at home right away and are reluctant to leave today. Spent both nights’ dinner here; the kitchen was well equipped for cooking and dining.  Thoughts for a great visit to St. John: Breakfast at Donkey Diner, Dinner at Maho Bay, snorkeling at Waterlemon Cay and Salt Pond.
Enjoy!

We’ve had a wonderful stay here at Tree House. Views=WOW!! St. John is such a beautiful island. We’ve really enjoyed the hammock, the birds, the breezes, and the use of such a well stocked kitchen for many romantic meals on the deck. We enjoyed Sunday Brunch at Miss Lucy’s-pina coladada pancakes-yum! Open air bars-Island Blues in Coral Bay and the Beach Bar in Cruz Bay were a treat. The real highlight of the trip was snorkeling. The guidebooks we found here were so helpful-thank you! We swam with a hawksbill turtle at Kiddle Bay and a stingray at Salt Pond Beach. We saw lots of starfish around Waterlemon Cay. Wish we could stay longer on this magical island. I know we’ll be back. Thank you for sharing this serene mountain top villa with us.

Great to be back after 2 yrs. This is about my 20th yr visiting Tree House. Have seen lots of growth on Bordeaux and in the Coral Bay area. Great snorkeling at Cinnamon to the right and around the Cay. Trunk always nice but get there early to avoid crowds. Waterlemon nice. Big Maho nice to the right and around the point. Francis nice out to the right halfway to the point. Skinny Legs still great to eat at.
Enjoy all the beauties of Tree House and St. John!

This is our second St. John visit, first time in Tee House. What a view, what a breeze! Snorkeling was great at Hawksnest and Lameshur. The house is great, everything we needed. Cocktails on the Coral Bay side in the evening and breakfast on the Tortola side. Only thing on the wish list would be a smoother driveway up!
We’ll be back!

Left Iowa in cold -5* and snow to find the weather here nearly perfect. It has rained briefly almost every day but when the sun comes out it is glorious. Went to all the beaches, found Francis a favorite-peaceful and not too crowded. Enjoyed the views on East End road, but Tree House is a great place to just relax and enjoy watching the water.
Skinny’s for bugers, Shipwreck was our favorite. Hope to be back soon!

Great trip back to Tree House once again! Each times is a different adventure. Always something new to discover. A great escape from the world. This is our favorite side of the island. It’s like a vacation from a vacation compared to the other side of the island. Words can’t describe it. This is the most beautiful place in the world!! Well, it’s time to say goodbye once again. Hope to be back soon

We are from Charleston SC. We were married April 13th of this year and this is the 2nd half of our honeymoon.  I was here about 20 years ago with school and I am amazed to see the changes. The island is still as beautiful as ever. The Tree House is a great place to spend a week of relaxation with its views of Tortola as well as Coral Bay.  As always, the donkeys and the goats were entertaining and very cute.  We spent lazy days on just about every beach we found. Francis and Salt Pond were our favorites.

We have been coming to St John rather faithfully for 20 years (except for the years when our children were born). We have stayed in many Windspree Homes but Tree House is our favorite. It is not as elegantly furnished as some but the view is absolutely priceless—it was at its best a few years back when some hurricane pruning exposed a spectacular view of Drake’s Passage and Tortola, which has now grown back up.
This trip we found the snorkeling to be best at Waterlemon Cay and Lameshur. Our favorite beach for just sitting and swimming is still Gibney.
We rarely eat out but always try to have at least one dinner in Coral Bay. We enjoyed Voyages this time; the food and service was very good and reasonably priced.
Enjoy this magnificent piece of paradise, no matter what you do, you can’t go wrong!

I am quite certain that over the coming holidays all our friends are going to be sick of us taking about St. John and the wonderful house we found to stay in. This is our second trip here. The island was incredibly lush and green compared to our last visit, which was in May, a much more arid time of year. It rained every day this week, but nobody seemed to care since it only lasted a few minutes.
Snorkeling-- Salt Pond (we saw an octopus and a nurse shark!), Jumbie Bay, Maho, and Francis
We took a BVI trip on the Lucky Dog out of Caneel bay. Norman Island and the Indians were great (wonderful snorkeling!)
Hiking—we took the Reef Bay trail with the Park Service tour, which was great because the Sadie Sea takes you back to Cruz Bay so you don’t have to hike back up! Ram’s Head was great, very windy. Bring lots of water and go early, as it’s a hot trip. The short hike to Drunk Bay from Salt Pond is neat; there are all kinds of rock sculptures of people there.
Trips—we took the Lucky Dog to the BVI, which we recommend. It included a stop at the Willy T at Norman Island which is a fun place to eat. We also took a sunset sail with Cpt. Phil on the Wayward Sailor, complete with champagne, cheese, crackers and fruit.
I could write a lot more, but you have an island to explore and we have a plane to catch. I hope everyone who stays at the Tree House enjoys it and St. John as much as we do.

This is our second stay at the Tree House within the past year.  The view over Coral Bay is intoxicating! We’ve been coming to St. John for the past 26 years and never tire of the island. Although it has changed dramatically since our first visit, it is still one of our favorite places.  We’ve been here during all seasons and just before and after hurricanes.  Even when the weather is rough, it’s still better than winter in PA.  We plan to retire here and are on the lookout for the perfect house. We’d consider the Tree House if it ever comes up for sale!

We don’t want to leave! Six of us from the frigid north have enjoyed a wonderful week in paradise! It’s the third trip here for some of us, and this is our favorite house—great views, great deck, perfect location and plenty of room.
A few favorites:
Beaches: Salt Pond—good snorkeling, calm, easy hike
Cinnamon—beautiful beach, great waves when there’s a north wind
Hawksnest—great snorkeling
Leinster/Waterlemom—our favorite—easy walk in, AMAZING snorkeling
Lameshur—terrific snorkeling off to the left, very un-crowded.
Restaurants: Lime Inn-great shrimp feast on Wednesdays
Skinny Legs for burgers
Donkey Diner for breakfast
Highly recommend the day trip to Virgin Gorda on the Stormy Petrol. Great tour of the Baths, lunch on Cooper Island and snorkeling on Peter Island. Max of 12 people on the boat so not too crowded. We’ll be back-just not soon enough!
