Testimonials for Sea Cottage - Bordeaux Mountain

If you are looking for peace and quiet and escaping the craziness of the world.. this is your place. Sea cottage is a perfect getaway for two. The wrap around porch is gorgeous and has the most romantic surreal setting. The outdoor shower was amazing and the views off the porch are breath taking. Monika and Jorge are the most genuine people who truly were the fantastic hosts. This is a non-tourist spot where you can escape the real world and enjoy peaceful heaven. The sound of tree frogs put us swiftly to sleep and the beautiful sunrise awoke us. Needless to say we will be back for sure!

We were so pleased with our choice of the Sea Cottage in the Bordeaux Mountain section of St. John. Here for our honeymoon, it was the perfect romantic hide-away. The view from the patio where we shared breakfast each morning was nothing short of truly spectacular. Quiet and peaceful, perfect location to hit the restaurants in Coral Bay along with all the beaches on the North Shore. We highly, highly recommend you look at the Sea Cottage when making your plans to stay on St. John.

Celebrating our Anniversary at the Sea Cottage was one of our best vacations ever! As soon as you step into the Sea Cottage you can feel the tranquil and peaceful surroundings take you in and put your mind and body automatically into island time. The craftsmanship, attention to detail and decorating with local artist pieces shows the care and thought in building the Cottage. It is centrally located which makes it very convenient to get to any part of the Island. Monica and Jorge were the perfect hosts; from meeting you on the island, making you feel welcome in their home and answering any questions you may have to what St. John has to offer. Eating outside on the patio and taking in the relaxing views was such a great way to enjoy your meals. The views are something that you see in tourist guides of the Island. It was fun feeding the Sugar Birds and watching them while we sat outside. Staying at this Cottage was such a great way to reconnect and relax with your significant other. Monica & Jorge, Thank you again for your generous hospitality and sharing your piece of paradise with us. We very much look forward to returning to the Sea Cottage and seeing you again soon! The cottage, the view and surrounding tropical forest are just amazing. The cottage had everything you need for a short or extended stay. Although it is not large, it is well designed, providing all kinds of places for storage of clothes, groceries, and everything else we brought with us. It is the perfect amount of space for a couple. We also really enjoyed the outdoor shower. The furnishings in the kitchen, along with the grill on the deck, provided us with everything we needed to prepare some memorable meals. It is so relaxing to sit out on the deck, sipping your morning coffee, enjoying the view across the tropical forest all the way down to the ocean, feeding and watching the birds, and just doing nothing! The location is perfect to get to both ends of the island, and everything in between, to do some great snorkeling, hiking, and exploring plantation ruins. The towns of Cruz Bay and Coral Bay both offer great restaurants and shopping. Both also have grocery stores that met our needs. Last, but not least, Monika was a wonderful host. She met us and we followed her to the cottage. A few turns off the main highway and we arrived. She showed us everything we needed to know about the cottage, answered all of our questions, and shared great information on the area. If you are looking for a private, non-resort vacation, this would be hard to beat. We have a lot of great memories from our time at the Sea Cottage. Our only regret is that we didn’t plan to stay a little longer. Thank you Monika and Jorge for sharing your cottage with us and we hope to be back again in the near future.

Our stay at the sea cottage was simply magnificent. Monica and Jorge have really thought of everything a couple would need in order to have a comfortable, convenient, and life changing stay at the Sea Cottage. We loved sitting on the porch, drinking coffee, and swinging in the hammock in the morning times. We cooked in the kitchen most nights and had everything we needed. We even had our gas tank run out one evening and Jorge was over to fix it within 30 minutes. The island itself is simply breathtaking and the Sea Cottage provides the perfect haven for a vacation in paradise. Would recommend this property to anyone and we will definitely be back. Thank you, Monica and Jorge!

The saying "if it seems to be too good to be true, it probably is" applies in most cases but Sea Cottage is a shining exception. Review after review talked about how perfect the cottage is, how amazing the setting is, how wonderful the view is, how accommodating the owners are, how each detail is taken care of, on and on, over and over. As a first time vacationer through, I was hesitant and a little nervous about the process. All of that hesitation and all of those nerves proved to be silly. Sea Cottage is a gem. The owners are fantastic people, who I can't wait to see again in the future. Details like the beach chairs, beach towels and cooler, a well stocked kitchen, thick fluffy towels, the wonderful assortment of playlists on the iPod, the hammock (ohhhh, the hammock - loved the hammock), the outdoor shower (ohhhh, the outdoor shower - loved the outdoor shower more than the hammock), the journal of previous guests and the sugar bird feeder make the experience of staying at the Sea Cottage so special, so magical, so unbelievably cool. I would recommend Sea Cottage without a moments hesitation. Staying here will turn a trip to St. John into something beyond your imagination. In my opinion, your searching for the perfect spot should stop now. You have found it. Selecting any other property on St. John would be a mistake. Staying at Sea Cottage will be the best decision you make ... after you have decided on St. John. NOTE: As of November 2013, AT&T is the most reliable cell service provider on island. If you must be in contact with the mainland, I would recommend looking into a temporary AT&T phone. Our regional carrier told us that texting would work but that proved to be spotty at best ... most of the time we could not send or receive texts.

What a charming cottage in a captivating environment for a reunion of two childhood best friends to take time away from busy lives and catch-up on the last 25 years. The cottage is clean, comfortable, cheerfully decorated with a well appointed kitchen. The wrap-around deck with breath-taking views was a perfect spot for enjoying meals or an evening cocktail. The beaches were within a 10 to 15 minute drive. Our favorite is Salt Pond. The owners are a delightful couple. They met us at the ferry, helped us rent our jeep and led us to the local grocery store to stock up on food for the week. We were then able to follow them to the cottage where they answered all our "island" questions. Their gracious welcoming to St. John took all the stress out of a late night arrival. Sea Cottage is well equipped for your vacation needs. A hairdryer, iron, 4 beach towels, 2 beach chairs, beach umbrella and cooler added to the convenience of our vacation. There is even a rain umbrella if Mother Nature is not fully cooperative. I would recommend this lovely home as well as St. John with it's remarkably, beautiful beaches as well as a non-commercial atmosphere.

Our experience at Sea Cottage could not have been better. From the moment we booked our stay, Monika and Jorge were accommodating, thoughtful, and provided useful information regarding Jeep rentals, et cetera. One we arrived at Sea Cottage, the view was even more spectacular in person. Jorge showed us around the cottage prior to leaving, which was wonderful. Sea Cottage proved to be a perfect "home base" for our stay on St. John. It was wonderful to drive back to the cottage on Bordeaux Mountain and enjoy the mountain breeze at night. The veranda was gorgeous and was a beautiful place to sit at night and enjoy the lights in the distance and the stars above our heads. The cottage is private, beautifully decorated, and unparalleled for the price we paid. It is a beautiful place for couples to spend time with one another. We are eagerly looking forward to returning to Sea Cottage on our next trip to St. John. You will not find more attentive, friendly, or knowledgeable homeowners to rent from. I highly, highly recommend Sea Cottage.

My wife and I were looking for another location to stay for our 8th anniversary after two previous stays at Maho Bay Eco Resort (we got engaged there). We found the ideal location at "Sea Cottage" after a search on Everything in the description sold us, and Monika and Jorge were the perfect hosts. The quiet days, absolute privacy (end of the road), and amphibian symphony (cacophony) at night provided and ideal setting for this couple (we were quite tempted to stay another week (or two)!). A Toyota Yaris (rent at Cyril E. King Airport in St. Thomas and ferry over - Budget) was quite adequate for the entire island (drive slowly on the deeper ruts!). Like the other reviews, the outdoor shower was wonderful (especially during the full Harvest Moon), and the far-off lightning storm was a great show. We absolutely would recommend Sea Cottage for a couple looking for the ideal stay on St. John. We're looking forward to our next visit already!

Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Sea Cottage is a charming cottage that glows like a charm on the mountainside. The photos are accurate but being there is so much better. Secluded on the quiet side of St. John, high up on Bordeaux Mt, the views are spectacular and the breezes delightful. The tree frogs are the only sound breaking the quiet serenity of your locale. Sugar birds and chameleon lizards, we loved being tucked away in this sunny haven. The sunrise welcomes you each morning to decide again, which beach shall we snorkel at today? I miss that daily task and look forward to a chance to return again. Lovely landlords.

Monika and Jorge have created the perfect place to enjoy the scenery and someone special. We spent 10 glorious days in the cottage. It was exactly what we were looking for. The views were spectacular. The cottage is the ideal spot to admire the sunrise and sunset, read a book and relax. We spent time dancing, feeding/ watching the birds and munching on local mangoes from the balcony. The location was convenient to our favorite beaches and restaurants, and provided much appreciated privacy- we really loved the outside shower. We will certainly make Sea Cottage our destination for our future trips to St. John.

Our stay on St John this week was amazing!  We enjoyed hiking several trails, Reef and Ram Head were our favourites! Also we enjoyed snorkelling and exploring many of the great bays on St John.  The Sea Cottage was a great place to come back in the evenings!  The view is amazing and the cottage is just perfect for a couple! We enjoyed sunrise and star gazing from the porch and outside shower.  We even took a day trip on the Bad Kitty to explore the Baths in the BVI.  Our trip was truly one taken to paradise! Thanks for everything!

Stephanie and Weston , 09/2012

It was pure pleasure to stay in your beautiful cottage this past week and although the weather was not on our side we made the best of it.  We were lucky enough to see some amazing sights, Cinnamon Bay and Trunk Bay were great and we saw lots of sea creatures while snorkelling on a kayak trip through Round bay.  The sun finally came out for our last few days here and we definitely left here satisfied.  The DVD collection really helped pass those rainy days.  We also greatly enjoyed all our trips into Coral bay and Cruz Bay and we had many amazing meals, most notably at Shipwreck landing, Fatty Crab and Banana Deck. We hope to be back here again someday and until then our fond memories well help to pass the time.

Thank you so very much for sharing your cottage with us.  Our 1st trip to St John was spectacular and the cottage is amazing.  We enjoyed snorkelling all over the island, especially at Waterlemon Cay and in the mangroves at Princess Bay.  We hiked around checked out many ruins and really enjoyed Annaberg and just hanging out on the beaches, especially Maho Bay.  We engaged right on the porch so we will definitely return!  Thank you so much for your hospitality and making our trip so special!

Thank you so much for building the beautiful little bungalow and then renting nit out to perfect strangers.  This was absolutely the most perfect way for Joyce and I to spend our 40th anniversary.  We really love this side of the island.  Your house is so close all the places we wanted to play at.  Everyday we slept in late and then went out and played and hiked and snorkelled and ate and then came home to the breezes, birds and frogs high up on the mountain.  It was perfect!!! The storms were cool!  Joyce and I were especially happy to talk to you in your shop on a hot Tuesday morning.

Steve and Joyce , 07/2012

What a truly wonderful wayto celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary.  We can now say we have been to the very end of the spectrum, from the wilderness of Alaska to the paradise of Saint John and Sea Cottage.  This is an enchanting place time seems to stand still, the peaceful tranquillity well remain with us forever.

Joe and Katlheen , Rochester NY , 07/2012

I have loved this place the majority of my life, my 25th anniversary of knowing this beautiful place and the incredible people that fought for the right to live here. I close my eyes and I hear so many things.  This place is vibrant with life.  This is the perfect setting for someone who adores all living creatures.  I am so thankful for being here, and the 9 years I waited this time was too long.  I feel the air, look at the beautiful ocean wildlife, forest and know that I feel at home again. There is no doubt I will be back.  I  could not have asked for a better place to stay. The colours of the cottage are my favourite and everything placed so beautifully.  I really mean this and wish you guys love, grace and compassion.

Tammy , 06/2012

Heather and I truly enjoyed our stay at Sea Cottage.  The view is one of the best on the island but is only a short drive to beaches drinks and shopping.  Our favourite time of the day was relaxing outside on the patio listening to music, amazing!  Look forward to seeing y’all soon!

In the past year we contemplated and prayed about where we could we could go in celebration of our 40 years of marriage. The answer to those prayers brought us here, and it could not have been a more wonderful week. Staying here at Sea Cottage on St John is the perfect “stop the world and let me off” place to be.  Being here has been relaxing, as we have enjoyed the time together in the midst of so much fun and beauty.  It was great to be out and about visiting beaches and snorkelling, going back time and again to Aqua Bistro and exploring some more, taking lots of photos, but it was always pleasant to come back here.  It is not easy to leave, the week has flown!  The water colour of green, aqua, cobalt blue and indigo with every hue in between will stay with us along with memories of being here at Sea Cottage

Paul and Susan , 05/2012

Our wedding at Trunk Bay at sunset was picture perfect. Sea Cottage was just wonderful, the peaceful sounds of the forest was breathtaking.  The view looking down to Coral Bay was so pretty. Since it rained 2 days we had a lot of time to tour the island and explore lots of neat stuff.  Thank you for the bottle of champagne to toast our wedding.  We enjoyed visiting your shop and picking up a few things to bring back.

Christina and Randy , 04/2012

We had a wonderful time staying here in the Sea Cottage.  The views are absolutely beautiful! Josh really liked watching the sugar birds.  Our time here on St John was perfect.  The beaches and snorkelling were wonderful.  Our favourite beach was Francis Bay, but we really enjoyed our hike down to Brown Bay.  We really liked Skinny Leg’s, but I must say the best dinners we had were the ones cooked here at the cottage (thanks to Josh)!

Josh and Beth , Pennsylvania , 04/2012

Sea Cottage was the perfect choice for our honeymoon serving as an ideal homebase for exploring the island, but also a destination in and of itself. The views of Coral Bay while being nestled in the trees was such a unique and memorable experience. Some mornings it was hard to leave the front deck! The location was perfect for allowing us to explore the north and south beaches, Coral Bay, and Cruz Bay. We absolutely loved the outdoor shower! Being tucked away in the woods was so peaceful and serene, and the nights were quiet, cool, and comfortable with the windows open. We would highly recommend the Sea Cottage to any couple looking for a beautiful and private cottage with amazing views. We loved our entire time on St. John and are already talking about our next trip and we will surely stay at the Sea Cottage again.

What a truly wonderful what to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary.  We can now say we have been to the very end of the spectrum, from the wilderness of Alaska to the paradise of Saint John and Sea Cottage.  This is an enchanting place time seems to stand still, the peaceful tranquillity well remain with us forever.

The moment my wife and I saw the cottage, there was never a doubt that we would have a relaxing and romantic week ahead of us. In most instances, the actual rental appearance never quite measures up to the listing photos that are viewed on the website. Sea Cottage is the exception! The sunrise views of Coral Bay and beyond were spectacular with the morning mist rising from the surrounding mountains. Every amenity of the cottage was a delight; the bed was very comfortable, the outdoor shower was heavenly, the view from the balcony no matter what time of day or night was grand, the cottage itself was clean, neat and tastefully decorated with local, handcrafted art, every appliance from the smell of the coffee pot brewing in the morning to the soothing music provided from the iPod helped create an ambience of relaxation and peace. Even the road winding through the mountains leading to the cottage, provided a sense of adventure and excitement. Although Sea Cottage is located high on the mountain, we actually walked from the cottage down the Bordeaux Mountain Trail to Lameshur Bay to snorkel, a roundtrip of about 5 miles. There is absolutely nothing to say that would be a drawback, especially if you are looking for a place that is very private, romantic and peaceful. Bottom line: When revisiting St. John for another vacation, I will not be researching the internet for a different accommodation. We are already looking forward to another week at the Sea Cottage and exploring more of what St. John has to offer.

David , Seymour, Indiana , 03/2012

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Sea Cottage. It is very private and secluded. We had no problem with insects and ate our meals on the veranda with a georgeous view of Coral Bay and beyond. The cottage is clean and new. Good selection of DVDs on hand. The outdoor shower was a favorite. We recommend Sea Cottage wholeheartedly.

Heather , Charlottesville, VA , 02/2012

The Sea Cottage was a perfect getaway for two! This is an extremely private, brand-new home with spectacular views of the sea. The cottage was clean and as-advertised. The cottage has beautiful landscaping from the road down to the home. The forest surrounds the porch side of the cottage, and we really enjoyed listening to the birds (who are very friendly and will sit on the railing to look at you!) and the sound of the breeze in the trees. We did not have any problems with insects despite being so close to the forest. The breeze was certainly steady enough to keep the house cool.  If we are able to return to St. John in the future, we will not hesitate to rent the Sea Cottage!

Heather , Greensboro, NC , 02/2012

My partner and I just spent a wonderful week on St. John in the Sea Cottage on Bordeaux Mountain. The cottage has many attributes to recommend it, the greatest of which is the view overlooking first the lush green Carolina Valley and then several beautiful bays, the East End of St. John and the British Virgin Islands, and the Caribbean in the distance. The pictures shown in the property description are accurate, as hard as it might be to believe. So most mornings were spent in the comfortable chairs on the porch, drinking coffee, watching the sunrise, reading, and watching the beautiful, tropical birds, including bananakeets and hummingbirds. Afternoons were often spent reading in the hammock before heading out to dinner. The cottage itself is lovely with large Mexican tiles on the floor as well as on the wrap around deck and in the outside shower. The outside shower offered complete privacy, but stunning views. The screen doors on two sides of the cottage, plus the many windows, create fantastic airflow from the famed trade winds. There is a great selection of dvd's and a nice flat screen tv. The kitchen is appropriately stocked to allow for cooking and we cooked one night. But there are many wonderful restaurants nearby in Coral Bay and Cruz Bay, so we ate out most nights. The bathroom is stocked with wonderful comfy towels. Although the lush forest trees surround three sides of the Sea Cottage, the side you see when you approach from the driveway is beautifully landscaped. Accessibility to all of St. John is another great benefit of staying at the Sea Cottage. You are close to great St. John National Park trails. You are a short drive to great beaches on the North Shore as well as to the quiet and beautiful East End. Amazing snorkeling is to be had in the waters at several spots. There is also plenty of St. John information available on the bookshelves in the cottage. There is a good grocery store just 10 mins or so in Coral Bay, as well as some pleasant shopping, including the property owners' shop, which has some beautiful locally made artisan crafts. The larger grocery stores, more shopping and restaurants are just 20 mins away in Cruz Bay. We highly recommend the Sea Cottage for a great, relaxing, romantic getaway for two that comes at a very reasonable price. We recommend an SUV rental in order to take full advantage of all St. John has to offer.

Joe , Providence, RI , 01/2012

After our wedding, we wanted to stay somewhere private and comfortable. We did not want to be at a busy, pricey resort. We were very impressed with the Sea Cottage. Monika and Jorge are really nice people and great hosts. They met us on the ferry dock and had yummy banana bread waiting for us in the fridge. They were easily accessible in case any came up. The Sea Cottage is certainly tucked away, but easy to find as there were signs directing us to it from off the main road. The view is priceless, as we looked out from the deck on Coral Bay and eastern side of the island. We could even see Tortola and other islands in the distance. At night, it was quiet and cool as we slept comfortably with the windows open, the screen doors shut, and fan blowing overhead. There is a fridge, microwave, toaster, grill, and coffee maker available for breakfast and keeping food fresh for the week. We enjoyed the flat screen tv with dvd player and great collection of movies in the evening. We stayed busy during each day leaving early after preparing breakfast and lunch, returning each evening to freshen up for either a quiet night in or going out to enjoy food at Cruz Bay. We loved staying here and would definitely recommend this place for couples who want a secluded, peaceful, and comfortable hideaway with an amazing view.

We were looking to get away from the common vacation grind, crowded pools and cookie cutter resort life and hoped to find a quiet, remote and authentic retreat. We found exactly that at the “Sea Cottage.” The sounds of the forest at night were amazing and the view spectacular. There are no homes across the valley, which adds so much to the private atmosphere. The outdoor shower was one of our favorite things about Sea Cottage, the experience of being surrounded by the forest was very unique, and beyond what we had expected. It really makes you look forward to returning to the cottage after a long day of hiking and snorkeling. You won’t regret it; we had an amazing time and cannot wait to go back.
